Officers Need Community Support Daily, Not Just After Tragedy

On March 15, Fort Worth police officer Matt Pearce was shot seven times during an arrest attempt of a fugitive. Being close to this situation has made me stop and reflect. While it's so important to show support for officers like Matt after an incident, we need to do all we can to make sure police have resources and training so they can make it home safely.

In the wake of the 2008 great recession, budgets and financial concerns have been at the forefront of policy making throughout the United States. Perhaps one of the most frustrating elements about working in emergency management and emergency medical services (EMS) are the constant threat of budget cuts. Citizens are also impacted by such budget cuts and many communities are facing cuts to their 9-1-1 emergency system.
