A Public Health Perspective on the Opioid Crisis: Free Digital Magazine
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reports that more than 130 people died every day from opioid-related drug overdoses in 2016 and 2017—and the trend shows no signs of abatement in 2018 or beyond. The epidemic is overwhelming healthcare systems and community resources—and taking an immeasurable toll on those battling addiction and on their families.
American Public University System created this special issue magazine, A Public Health Perspective on the Opioid Crisis, to spotlight the opioid crisis that is sweeping the nation. Collected in the publication are diverse and thought-provoking articles offered by our university faculty and practitioners.
From policymaking to personal stories about helping others overcome addiction, the magazine’s articles represent the outstanding work being conducted in the fields of health sciences, public health, sports medicine, nursing, and coaching. More so, they represent the critical issues currently being examined in APUS classrooms by our next generation of public health leaders in hopes of discovering new pathways toward ending this national epidemic.
