A Year in Review: The Greatest Challenges Facing Law Enforcement

By Leischen Stelter, editor of In Public Safety

In 2015, law enforcement policies and practices received a great deal of public scrutiny. To address some of the most important developments in law enforcement, In Public Safety has created an online magazine with popular articles from the year.

This digital publication addresses many high-publicity stories and puts these events in the context of the evolution of the law enforcement profession. Articles also address the impacts these headline-grabbing events have on individual police officers.

Being a police officer is extremely stressful, so we included articles about how officers can address their own mental health as well as lend support to other officers. We offer practical advice that will benefit both new and seasoned law enforcement professionals.

The majority of these articles are written by American Military University faculty members who are both academics and practitioners. Their real-world experience, when combined with academic rigor, allows them to provide invaluable insight about what’s happening in law enforcement and the criminal justice system as a whole.

We hope you find these articles beneficial and thought-provoking. You can also view the university’s online magazine for correctional officers. Please share these publications with your fellow officers to keep these conversations going, for everyone’s benefit.
