A Year in Review: The Most Important Topics in Corrections

By Leischen Stelter, editor of In Public Safety

The corrections field is facing many changes as national leaders re-assess its role in our country’s criminal justice system. To help address these changes and their impact on correctional officers and administrators, In Public Safety has created an online magazine with some of the most popular articles from 2015.

This online publication addresses everything from dealing with mentally ill inmates to identifying human trafficking networks behind prison walls. Many of these topics do not receive enough attention in the correctional field; yet have a major impact on individual correctional officers and the correctional system.

The articles featured in the digital magazine are mostly written by American Military University faculty members who are both academics and practitioners. Our professors have real-world experience that, when combined with academic rigor, allows them to provide invaluable insight about what’s happening in the field of corrections and the criminal justice system as a whole.

We hope that correctional officers and those working in probation and parole find these articles both beneficial and thought-provoking. You can also view the university’s online magazine for law enforcement officers. Please share these publications with your fellow officers and administrators to help keep these conversations going, for everyone’s benefit.
