Public safety agencies and its employees in California are breathing a little easier after Governor Jerry Brown announced that he had revised the state budget last week to protect funding for public safety (and education), according to this article.
“Lower tax revenues, coupled with federal government obstructions that blocked billions in necessary cuts, have created a deeper budget hole. More painful reductions will be necessary as a result, but education and public safety must be protected,” said Brown.
But this good news could be short lived as voters must pass the Governor’s budget. One of the initiatives that must be passed on the November ballot would provide constitutional protection for public safety funding, virtually guaranteeing money for public safety.
The Governor’s latest budget proposal put the current California deficit at $15.7 billion, according to this article.
